Editorial Reviews
Book Description
In 1860, "Frank Harrington" settled in the Queen's Bush, where he began farming on 100 acres of land. For 40 years he kept a diary, making one entry annually on Christmas Day. It is from this document that his story emerges, rich with the events of pioneer life, its joys and excitements, its hardships and tragedies. The Kristmiss Book is copiously illustrated with early nineteenth-century photographs by Reuben R. Sallows.

REUBEN R. SALLOWS was born in Huron County, Ontario, in 1855. In 1881, he set up his own photography studio in Goderich, where he took formal studio portraits. Sallows' innovations-- taking his cameras into the countryside and creating powerful compositions in black and white-- altered Canadian photography. His talent and professionalism made him internationally famous. His clients included newspapers and magazines in Canada and the United States, as well as the Canadian government. With his wife, Flora McKinnon, Sallows raised three children in Goderich. He died at age 82 on his way to take photographs at a church camp.
