Editorial Reviews
Book Description
"Soil conservation is a general problem within the Caribbean. Some significant efforts have been made to deal with it, but these remain inadequate . . . This publication provides a uniquely comprehensive survey of the issue - its description and extent and technical solutions. It indicates the need for more information on these aspects and, importantly also, on the urgency of a renewed effort in the whole region, taking into account the great significance of the problem, not only for the future of agriculture, but also for the protection of water resources, forests and landscapes." (Foreword)

This book is presented in two parts. Part One examines the status of soil erosion and conservation in the Caribbean region, the sociological factors in soil conservation programmes, and the legal and institutional context in which all soil conservation must be implemented and managed. Part Two focuses on the technology. It examines the farming systems' approach to soil conservation and the methods now being employed to ensure that conservation projects are integrated into the farming system.
