Evolution of local farming systems, rainfall data analysis, pest and Striga spp. incidence and control, sorghum ratooning, and the initiation in Kenya of adaptive regional research programmes are reviewed, research results are presented, and results from two approaches to extension programmes involving farm households are discussed.
