Book Description
This is a collection of six papers that were presented at COSPAR96, in Birmingham, U.K. This session showcased current and planned exploration activities for the giant planets, Jupiter and Saturn. The volume starts with an account of the results of the mass spectrometer measurements of the Jovian atmosphere. This is a key result from the instrumented probe which the Galileo spacecraft delivered to Jupiter. Next are results of measurements on the location of the Jovian magnetopause and bow shock. Then, several theoretical investigations explore effects in the magnetospheres of Jupiter and Saturn. Finally, data from the Pioneer and Voyager spacecraft are used to model some of the properties of energetic electrons in the Saturnian magnetosphere.
