Plasmaphysik gibt eine systematische Einführung in die Methoden zur theoretischen Beschreibung physikalischer Prozesse in ionisierten Gasen. Ausgehend vom mikroskopischen Teilchenbild werden die Gleichungen sowohl für eine mikroskopische als auch für eine makroskopische Beschreibung eines Plasmas abgeleitet. Soweit es ohne größeren mathematischen Aufwand möglich ist, werden relativistische Effekte berücksichtigt. Besonders diskutiert wird die Frage, welche Näherung welcher Fragestellung angemessen ist.Als Beispiele werden Fragestellungen aus der Astrophysik, der Magnetosphärenphysik, sowie Laborexperimente diskutiert. Insbesondere werden Gleichgewichtskonfigurationen, Instabilitäten und Wellen in den verschiedenen Näherungen behandelt.
